English

In the era of algorithmic governance, content flows on social media are managed, ranked, and filtered by complex algorithms composed of diverse rules and signals. The unregulated expansion of these systems has raised concerns about their impact on individual and collective well-being, as well as their broader political and social implications. These technologies significantly shape users’ experiences, behaviors, preferences, and interactions, producing long-term cognitive effects—particularly as users are frequently exposed to content aligned with their existing beliefs. Such patterns reinforce social, ideological, and political polarization and may contribute to the reproduction of digital inequalities. In this context, critical thinking emerges as an essential cognitive and analytical skill for evaluating information and identifying biases. The findings suggest that although escaping algorithmic influence is inevitable, conscious resistance is possible, as long as critical thinking remains the core. This relationship rests on three key dimensions: resisting informational bias, evaluating content critically, and enabling a shift from passive consumption to informed engagement. Those who are equipped with critical awareness do not uncritically absorb messages; instead, they actively assess sources, interpret linguistic framing, and recognize dominant narratives, thereby engaging with digital content in an informed and independent manner.
