Abstract
In classical paradigms, the human sciences have
conventionally been formulated upon the premise of neutrality and the objective
pursuit of truth. However, Michel Foucault’s critical and genealogical critique
of the inextricable nexus of “power/knowledge” confronts these positivist
presuppositions with a profound epistemological challenge. Employing a
descriptive-analytical method, this study aims to examine the mechanisms
through which the discourse of power operates in the production and
legitimation of knowledge across the human sciences. The findings reveal that
knowledge in the human sciences is inherently non-neutral; rather, it is a
byproduct of capillary networks of power and disciplinary techniques that
manage and normalize individuals through the apparatuses of “objectification”
and “subjectification.” Furthermore, academic institutions- by
institutionalizing “regimes of truth” and enforcing methodological standards of
exclusion and inclusion – legitimize conformist propositions while systematically
disqualifying “subjugated knowledges.” Ultimately, this study concludes that
the fundamental task of the researcher in the human sciences lies in
maintaining a critical ethos aimed at deconstructing the naturalized
entanglements between scientific authority and networks of power.
